Question

installing exchange server 2003 on member server

I have followed the book in installing server 2003 on one box as a DC and on another as a member server in the same domain.  Then I ran ForestPrep on the DC and DomainPrep on the member server and installed Exchange Server 2003 on the member server.  Now when I add users in the DC, I do not get the option to setup a mailbox for the new user.  What am I missing?

You need to install the Exchange System Management tools on the DC.  

Or, on the other hand, you can manage AD and your users from your Exchange server.

In order for the exchange properties to show up in Active Directory users and computers, you need to have the ESM installed on the same machine.

Easy-v is right. Just as an additional recomendation, simply use the Exchange server CD and run the setup. Uncheck all the other options except the one that says "Exchange System Manager". click next and your set. You won't be installing the actual components to run exchange on the other computer. Just incase that is your concern.
