Instead of Send on behalf you could "Send As" instead. The email will go out as the CEO.

Browse All TopicsWhen using the "Send on behalf" feature of Exchange, is it possible in Exchange 2003 to change the message "name_of_secretary on behalf of name_of_CEO" to read something like "name_of_CEO (by name_of_secretary)".
We would like our recipients to see FIRST in their "From" field the name of the CEO and THEN the name of the person who sent this message for the CEO.
Thanks.

Interesting idea marc_nivens... A few questions:
1) Would that distribution list have its own mailbox on the Exchange server ? (Inbox, Sent Items, Contacts, etc...)
2) Where would emails sent by the secretary using this technique go ? In the secretary Sent Items or the DL Sent Items folder ? Would it be possible to have it saved in the CEO's sent mail folder automatically ?
3) How about replies to this distribution list address? Is it possible to have the replies sent directly to the CEO inbox so that he doesn't have to look in 2 different mailboxes to look for new mail
Thanks.
1) No, its just a DL so it would not have a mailbox.
2) The mail would go into the sent items folder of the user that sent the message. I don't think you can automatically copy these to the CEO's sent items.
3) Replies would go to everyone on the DL, so if you added both users then both would get the email.
From the receiver point of vue, this would look exactly like if the email was sent from "CEO", but with a name "CEO (by Secretary)" ? They wouldn't see any reference (in the email or header) showing that this name is in fact a DL ?
If so, it sounds like exactly what we need !!! I'll give it a try tomorrow and let you know how it worked.
The only way they could tell is if they double clicked the sender, then they could see the members of the group. You could take it one step further and hide the membership of the DL so nobody could tell who is on it. Just right click on the group in ADU&C and go through Exchange tasks, using the option hide membership.

The only MS officially supported way to do this is to hire Microsoft Consulting Services. They bring a tool that changes the localization strings in mdbsz.dll to reflect what you want it to say. Unofficially it might be done with a hex editor but it would be highly unsupported and even if you could change the message I doubt you would be able to change the order (make the name appear first).
