The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Moving Exchange Mail To A Newly Built Windows 2003 SBS

Asked by JohnAtkinson in Exchange Email Server

I take care of a Windows 2003 Small Business Server system for a 20 person company.  I'm moving the server from an 80GB drive up to a 120GB drive.  I'd really like to just copy the partitions from the 80 to the 120 with PartitionMagic, but discovered I cannot, because the 80GB drive was originally part of a Promise Technology-enabled RAID mirror.  (The Promise RAID controller, a FastTrak TX2 in this case, apparently writes proprietary information to the final 64KB of a disk, which totally confuses PartitionMagic.

So, I'm left with just installing Windows 2003 SBS afresh onto the 120GB drive, and somehow migrating the data over to the new drive.  Most of our data is safely stored on a separate partition, which will move via drag-and-drop.  I'm more worried about getting my users' Exchange data transferred over.  I'm not a high-powered Windows or Exchange administrator, but I'm hoping YOU are, Gentle Reader!  There are 2 questions to answer here:

1. What's a safe plan for moving my users' Exchange data from one installation of Windows 2003 SBS to another one?

2. What's a safe plan for moving the Active Directory information (users, computers, distribution groups, etc.) from one system to the other?  (I realize this is a bit off-topic, but if you can answer both questions, you get the full 500 points!)

Thanks, Gracious Expert!
