Certain users are having trouble accessing their pst files over the network. "Access is denied".
Under Outlook 2000, under services, pst properties, the advance button is also access denied.
When we close outlook and re-open it, it seems okay but 30 minutes later it happens again.
We know having pst's on the network is not supported by microsoft.
We use to run an Windows NT server without any problems.
Since upgrading the server to Windows 2000, SP4 we have been having problems accessing pst files for certain users.
We tried UNC path instead of mapping, remove pst and re-create it, change network card, remove from SAN drive and use a local network drive but we still get the same error.
Any other suggestions or anyone have the same problem resolved?

get the FileMon utility from www.sysinternals.com and see whether the access is indeed denied on the server side, or maybe it is denied locally somewhere in some temporary folder.
second thing is to see which differences are there between the users who can access the pst files without any problems, and those who can't. maybe, they are in different OUs and have different Group Policies applied to them.
this might be the issue with NT lanman authentication. what OS are the clients running? your Windows 2000 domain group policy might restrict the use of LanMan, or NTLM v1. altogether, and NT4.0 or Win95/98/Me don't support more advanced authentication schemes.
The clients OS is windows 2000.
When building the windows 2000 server, we transferred the lanman reg key from NT to the 2000 server.
Group policies are all the same.

would this not be everyone having the problem. It's only a few users who get this pst problem.
Any other ideas? It's their pst that gets access denied. After rebooting or closing outlook and re-opening, it works for a while and then it happens again. Would upgrading to windows 2003 help?

It sounds like a permissions issue. Windows 2000/2003 NTFS security is a little different thatn on NT. Make sure that the users have modify permission on the folder inside the share. (Not just share permission, default is Read on the NTFS side.)
