Cannot get OWA to work WITHOUT VPN

Hi Experts,

I have an windows / exchange sbs2003 server that refuses to let user access through IIS.  What I mean is If I VPN in I can view OWA no problems, but if I try to access this from "ExtIP/exchange" via http or https it returns - "you are not authorised to view this page".

We had to reinstall the server due to problems, but this should now work fine.  I run McAffre Virus Scan 8.1 and have removed all port blocking rules.

I did install groupshiled 6.1 but this seems to have a glitch which uses up all the virtual memory, so I uninstalled it and still cannot get on to OWA.  I checked the firewall (Windows ) but that seems to error saying IPNAt.sys is in use.

Any Ideas.

well sembee, progressed a little since this morning.  I had a bright idea of uninstalling and reinstalling IIS after posting the question.

This to my amazement worked!!!  However when I download emails using either popcon pro, or MS pop3 connector it downloads emails (popcon) but did not, put them into Exchange system manager tracking util.  Read up a little further
and found that consiquence of the above action is that we need to reinstall exchange.

Done that and now the emails are appearing in MS exchange tracking but NOT on users email (outlook) or OWA.

The OWA is imperative to be working by tomoroo morning GMT 07:00!!!
If not I have 2 choices to either ring MS Not good!! £300+vat

or reinstall server  NOT Good Days work.

or Am I agains't a time thing i e need to wait for the emails to appear.

Please HELP!!

What does message tracking say that Exchange is doing with the messages?
That will show whether the messages are being dropped, delivered etc.

Simon.
it says that the "SMTP store driver submitted message to MTA" they are all saying the same.
That isn't good.

I don't think Exchange should be using MTA. If that is the case then that is indicating a serious problem with the Exchange transport mechanism. I haven't found much else. The reinstall of IIS has probably broken something more serious.

If I was looking at the server I would probably rebuild it. Whether you want to do that or not is up to you. Your other option is to call Microsoft.

You could try doing a backup of Exchange, then removing Exchange, removing IIS and reinstalling both, up to the latest service packs. That might do it for you.

Simon.
I think a reinstall of the server is inevitable but want to avoid it really.  It is using SBS2003 so it is difficult to remove exchange without reinmstall.  I did try a reinstall of exchange after IIS but this is where we are now.
I reinstalled the server with standard edition 2003 & Exchange 2003 both sp1.

Got all working OK with OWA and VPN, but now have an error when synchronising exchange of the following:

Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed. An object could not be found.'

Any more help appreicated#

Simon.
That is probably the offline address book.

http://www.amset.info/exchange/oab-error.asp

I would help if you looked at the sync log and spotted which component it was failing on. That will confirm that it is the OAB causing the problem.
