Exchange 2003 FQDN configured wrong

I did an exchange 5.5 migration to 2003 a while back and noticed something today. The SMTP server FQDN is configured as the hostname and local domain name of the computer, see "telnet exchange server" and "ipconfig /all" sections below. I think I know how to fix this, please see "change FQDN in ESM" section below. Please verify this is the proper way to fix this problem and list any additional steps I might need to do. What is the repercussion if any if I correct this problem? I have not noticed any problems because of this miss configuration. Would someone mind telling me what problems I might not have noticed happening because of this?

nslookup -q=mx mydomain.com
---------------------------------------------------------
mydomain.com    MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.mydomain.com
mail.mydomain.com       internet address = XX.XXX.XXX.XXX

ipconfig /all
---------------------------------------------------------
Windows IP Configuration
   Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : exchsrvr-mail1
   Primary Dns Suffix  . . . . . . . : domain.lcl
   Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
   IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
   WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
   DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : domain.lcl

Telnet exchange server (telnet mail.mydomain.com 25)
---------------------------------------------------------
220 exchsrvr-mail1.domain.lcl Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.1830 ready at  Tue, 25 Oct 2005 09:0 1:42 -0700

Change FQDN in ESM
---------------------------------------------------------
ESM > Administrative Group > Domain > Servers > Server Name >Protocols > SMTP
Right click on "Default SMTP virtual server" and select properties. Go to Delivery tab and select Advanced. Currently I have Fully-qualified domain name: exchsrvr mail1.domain.lcl. It should be mail.mydomain.com.

Sembee thanks the points are yours. I cannot believe I did not check this after doing the migration. One last thing. Do you know if this setting should have carried over from an exchange 5.5 to a exchange 2003 migration? Or perhaps it was never configured to begin with?
I don't think it would carry over automatically as it is a per server setting - not an Org setting. It is one of those things that I just set without thinking about...
