The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Exchange 2003 2nd server - would this idea work?

Asked by TheRabbi in Exchange Email Server

Hi,

I work for a firm where e-mail is the most important part of our workplace.

We are happily running Exchange 2003 and have been for about 6-12 months now, however I only recently started the company and my first job was to look at the fall back options of the exchange server.

At the moment they have this setup in place and I can't quite get my head around whether it would work or not...

We have an SMTP gateway that all email goes to when it comes in, this is then virus checked and spam filtred before going onto exchange to be delivered to the relevant mailbox.

Their fail-safe plan is: if the Exchange Server goes wrong, they have a test box in the QA Lab that is used to check their products by generating mass amounts of email - it is not connected to the network but is configured with ALL the email addresses of the employees, just on a different domain.

If the Exchange server goes down the idea is to plug this box into the network and change the SMTP gateway to route all mail through this box.

so my question is:

if we have a domain of abc.com and Exchange goes down, can we plug in the box from xyz.com , route the mail to it and just tell people to reconfigure Outlook to look on the new box for mail?

Will this work? will it work if a 2-way trust was established between the 2 domains?
