The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Exchange 2003 Open relay problem?

Asked by pcchiu in Exchange Email Server

Tags: relay, smtp, 550

Our System:  Windows 2003 with Exchange 2003, cisco pix 501.
Our ISP complain that we've an open relay server so I double check the setting and here's the setting with open relay, Somehow whenever I turn off the openrelay as instruct by some website I got the error message when I send a test email from my gmail account...
Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 9): 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for abcd@abdc.com(the actual error so the real email).
Here's the setting when it got the above error:
From the SMTP Virtual Server properties:
Access->Anonymous Access(checked), Basic Authentication(checked), Integrated Windows Authentication(checked).
Connection->(all except the list below-checked) with no entry at the computers field.
Relay Restrictions->Relay(Only the list below-checked), with no entry at the computers fields, the Allow all computer which successfully... of the list above (checked).

When I changed the Relay Restrictions back to "All except the list below" everything back to normal however the server become open relay again...

Our goal is make the server not open relay anymore but still able to receive email from outside...  Am I doing something wrong or miss some step?

I also reboot the server couple times and also reapply the SP2 and reboot couple times...

Thanks in advance...
