The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Email not being delivered to external users

Asked by Guy_Adams in Exchange Email Server

Tags: exchange, 3020, report, delivered

Hi All,

Ive recently deployed Exchange server (included with the SBS 2003 server). Its only a basic deployment using the POP3 connector.

There are several users that are in Active Directory who dont actually log on in our network locally, the only reason I have set them up with user accounts is because they need to access resourses over a hardware VPN.

I have set these user accounts in a serperate OU in Active Directory. They have there own email addresses which I have added as SMTP addresses, the problem is the addresses are on the same domain, i.e @mydomain.com. So as soon as anyone tries to send an email to them they get a Non-Delivery Report.

The server is obviously thinking that they are internal addresses (because of the same domain) and not sending then to our ISP mail servers, instead passing them back to itself.

The Non-Delivery Report gives this error message:

"A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients.  Contact your administrator."

All I get from message tracking is this:

SMTP Store Driver: Message Submitted from Store
SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing
SMTP: Start Message Submission to Advanced Queue
SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer
SMTP: Message Categorized and Queued for Routing
SMTP: Non-Delivered Report (NDR) Generated

BUT I have also recieve an error in the event log:

Source: MSExchangeTransport
Category: NDR
Event ID: 3020

Cause: A forward loop was detected by the categorizer. This is a common hosting configuration problem caused when someone uses the provisioning tool to create a contact in one organization unit and creates a user in a different organization user that share the same e-mail address.

I really need some advice on how to prevent this

Thank you in advance
