Deleted/ restored public folder (contacts) is not searchable any more through the quick find in Outlook.

there seems to be a corrupt contact in that contacts folder which is not allowing you to do a basic search. i had faced a similar issue sometime back and used a tool called checktype.exe to find that corrupt contact.

you need to run the tool from a machine that has Outlook installed and can access that folder

the syntax is
contactchecktypes "Top level folder%Folder%Contacts Folder"

where the PF structure is sometime like

Public folders
All Public Folders
Top Folder
Sub Folder
Contacts folder


Once you find the bad contacts, you need to remove them and recreate them.

Where can I ger checktype.exe. Google returned no results...

Returns the following:

I figured it out... checktype works at the root of the public folders, so the correct syntax is

checktype "Contacts"
