The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Exchange 2003 e-mail bouncing between two servers after change in x.400

Asked by L3MS in Exchange Email Server

Tags: between, exchange, two, servers, 2003

We went through a successful domain rename about a month ago. We are running Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 in native mode. As a final clean up step and after some experimentation I recently changed the x.400 address to reflect the new company name. That turned out to be a bad idea. We are able to send and receive mail internally and externally with only one problem, we are unable to send messages to company contacts (employees in other divisions) listed in Exchange. Non-company contacts in Exchange function normally.
More background: All employees have the same SMTP suffix. All inbound and outbound mail is routed through corporate servers which have a list of all employees and their respective divisional servers. An employee’s e-mail address might be John.Doe@Company.com. The corporate servers forward the message to the recipients’ divisional server by adding the division to the address. John.Doe@Division.Company.com When I send a message to a recipient in another division, the message goes to the corporate servers then out to the appropriate divisional server.

We receive the following NDR message instantaneously every time a message is sent to an company contact in Exchange:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

      Subject:     Test from Division
      Sent:     5/4/2006 5:11 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Test User on 5/4/2006 5:14 PM
A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients.  Contact your administrator.
            <mail.Division.Company.com #5.4.6>

I have already tried this from Microsoft but it didn't work:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316617&Product=exch2003

Also tried changing a recipient policy that had the "This Exchange Organization is responsible for all mail delivery to this address" checked but that didn't work either.

Any suggestions?
