simonprr,
Sorry, supposed to be SMTP Virtual Server, not connector.

Browse All TopicsHi,
I have 4 Exchange 2003 SP1 Servers running on Windows 2003 AD (Two servers are on each site).
1) I have been looking into SP2 for Exchange and I have installed it one server that is not currently used (apart from double take) with the intention of using it to test SP2 and make sure everything works ok for when I upgrade the other production servers. I have created a test mailbox store and user's mailbox there, but whenever I try to send email to that user it always fails, with standard "unable to deliver" messages. The server has the policies assigned to it and it's also a member of the Routing Group (along with the other servers). Whatever I do I just can't seem to get it to accept email. I must have missed something, any ideas?
2) This may or may not be related, but in ESM under "Tools\Monitoring and Status\Status" two of the servers are showing as Unreachable. One of them is just setup for double take and the mailbox stores are stopped on it so maybe that’s why that server is unreachable, but the other is all running fine apart from the above problem! Why is this? How can I make them available?
3) The "Connector for Novell GroupWise" is still hanging around in ESM all over the place from when we used to use it. I found out that I'm supposed to be able to uninstall it using Add/Remove programs > Microsoft Exchange, but it won't let me - doesn't give me the option, even when I select "change" on the parent options. How do I remove it completely?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

That's probably due to the timeouts set on the SMTP Virtual Server.
You can adjust these in ESM.

Thats interesting. Any idea how to amend timeouts or the time it takes for Exchange to replicate? It seems to take AGES for it to replicate anything and thats even on the same site so it's not cause of slow WAN links or whatever. For example, I had to create a new user to test this and create their mailbox in my SP2 server and the mailbox didn't appear for over a day. No bad event logs entries on any of the servers either. Also takes ages for new users (for example) to appear in the GAL.
Anyways, I *think* I may have solved the Part 1 issue at least. I didn't make this clear to start with I guess, but I have 2 routing groups; HQ and DR.
Server 11 and Server 21 are in the HQ Routing Group
Server 12 and Server 22 are in the DR Routing Group
So I've created "Routing Group" Connectors between the 2 routing groups. An email I sent from a malbox in Server 21 has now arrived at Server 22, but not the other way around yet. Thats still waiting in the "Queues - Messages with unreachable destination". However that could be because it hasn't replicated that connector yet as I only set it up recently.
Also, amazingly, all the servers in "Tools\Monitoring and Status\Status" in ESM are showing as Available (Part 2!). Werid huh? Now I'm not sure if what I've done has fixed that or if it was something else I was trying with it. It would be useful to know.
So as long as these new routing connectors have fixed the problem and all the servers show as Available, I only have Part 3 left! Any ideas?
Would be interested in your comments on my findings/experience.

Hi simonprr,
For 1. Have you changed the SMTP connectors to the IP address, instead of unassigned. I had a similar prob with SP1 and this solved the issue.
Good Luck,
Chris
