Offline address book not downloading / problem with site security certificate

I've got a new Exchange Server 2007 set up and I'm having some problems which I expect are related.

Firstly, I noticed in Outlook's "Sync Issues" folder that it was reporting the following:

11:42:32 Microsoft Exchange offline address book
11:42:32              Not downloading Offline address book files.  A server (URL) could not be located.
11:42:32       0X8004010F

I google'd this and I believe I set up offline address book URL correctly in Exchange (but it's certainly plausible that I have not!). One site I found advocated adding a DNS entry for "autodiscover.company.com" pointing to the mail server.

I did this and it appears Outlook does try to use it, because whenever I start Outlook I get a security alert

"autodiscover.company.com

Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the site's security certificate.

X The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certifyuing authority.
(tick) The security certificate date is valid.
(tick) The security certificate has a valid name."

I have clicked "View Certificate" and tried to install the certificate and although I get no obvious errors, the message just returns next time.

It may be these are not related but I only got this security alert after I added a DNS entry for 'autodiscover' to try and fix the offline address book problem.

I'd be very grateful for all help. Thank you.

Many thanks, Simon, for your help.

No, we do not have a commercial SSL certificate.
No, we do not have a certificate in the name of autodiscover.domain.com

I do not know if autodiscover is working or not. How can I check? Should I remove the DNS entry for autodiscover?
I've removed the DNS entry for autodiscover. This gets rid of the security certificate message. However, my original problem remains - the sync issues folder in Outlook still says the offline address book cannot be downloaded.
I have the same problem on a test environment at home, and haven't found a solution to it yet - although my home test site is E2007 SP1 beta which might have something to do with it.

David Goldman at Microsoft has blogged on this which has most of the common problems:

I am also having the same problem.
I am using exchange 2007 with no public folder store, and even after adding the stores the problem still is persisting.

Although when I did specify an offline address-book for the First Storage Group one of the syn messages disappeared, but the second is persisting.

Any help woul dbe greating appreciated.
Hi all,

I got this working. I can't remember what we did now - but it probably was definitely URL and SSL related, so I will give points to Sembee on this basis.

One thing I do remember was using PowerShell to remove, and then re-make, the IIS virtual directories.
