Question

I need a way to change to mailbox state of an accidently deleted AD users to disconnect

Asked by: altonyoung

User was accidentally deleted from AD by our vendor, but mailbox still in connected state in Exchange System Manager.   What do I need to do so that I can create the same user and connect the user back to her original mailbox right away?   I know if I wait, System Manager will eventually catch up and have the mailbox in disconnect state, then I can connect a new user to it., but I can't wait.    Thank you.

Go to users and Computers, right click user.
Select Exchange tasks >> remove Exchange Attributes

Then renew account in Exchange manager or in AD.

The user is already gone from AD, so it does not exist in Users and Computers.  I can only see this user's mailbox in System Manager Manager now.

In ESM browse down to you mail store\mailboxes right-click and select "run cleanup agent"
This makes it possible to connect the mailbox to a new user, however
those deleted users plobably had some group memberships, had ACLs set on specific folders etc....

For those reasons you might consider to bring back the users from a restore.

Regards,
Michael Lundgren

Create user and then reconnect mailbox to it.
when created user then use Exchange System manager. Go to First Storage group >> Organisation >> Mailboxes >> right click mailbox >> Reconnect.

Michaellundgren,

I tried that, but the mailbox still shows as if it is still connected to the Ad user.   What does Run Cleanup Agent do?  does it force the synchronization of AD and Exchange directories to happen sooner?   Now I've waited long enough, the deleted user's mailbox is in disconnected state, so I can link it back to the user account which I created in AD yesterday.  My work around for the problem is:

1.  Create an AD account and a new mailbox for the user
2.  wait for ESM to update mailbox attributes so the user's original mailbox show it being disconnected 3.  export all Outlook items for the user from the mailbox.  Good thing there won't be too many to export
4.  Delete new exchange mailbox by running exchange tasks from AD users & computers
5.  Reconnect the user back to the original mailbox.

I was hoping there's quicker and easier way to do this.

Thank you.

1. Run cleanup agent from ESM. (this will mark your mailboxes as disconnected.)
2. Create a new AD account without a mailbox.
3. reconnect the now disconnected mailbox to the AD user.

I tried it, but it didn't work.  How long will it take before the mailbox is marked disconnected?  I waited a few hours, but the mailbox was still marked as connected.  Does this mean my exchange servers or ADs are not running properly to propagate information between them?

Thank you.

Ok your scenario suggests you to do the following
1.Run exchange clean-up agent from the exchange system manager.
2.Push Active Directory replication between this exchange site and the FSMO dc(even if they are in the same site)
3.Run exchange clean-up agent from the system manager.
It appears that you have Active Directory replicaiton issues.

consultkhan,

Please show me how to push AD replication between exchange and FSMO.  Thank you.

by: consultkhanPosted on 2007-06-28 at 01:37:43ID: 19378978

push replication to  the "configuration domain controller" you can find this on the directory access tab on the exchang server properties. From ad sites and services.msc or use repadmin.exe
I assume that exchagne and FSMO are in two differetn sites or two different subnets.

by: altonyoungPosted on 2007-06-28 at 08:13:49ID: 19381504

I will try it and let you know if this works.   Both Exchange server and FSMO are in the same site, same subnet.

Thank you.

consuultkhan,

Can you please be more specific on forcing a push of replication traffic between exchange and FSMO?   I tried the directory access tab and AD Site and Services, but don't see anything obvious for this task.   Thank you.

by: consultkhanPosted on 2007-07-06 at 22:25:20ID: 19436406

you have to find out the site where exchange is instaled and the site where all FSMO roles are existing.even if they are in the same site.Push replication using
REPLMON.EXE OR repadmin.exe

There is replication problems and they went away after applying SP2.   Thank you for your support and I like to apologize for not remembering to close this question.
