Exchange Server 2007 & MX Records: #550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipNotFound; not found ##
I have configured Exchange 2007 Hub and Edge servers. I am migrating from Kerio e-mail server to the Exchange platform. My ISP has given my new Edge server a higher priority than the old server to receive e-mail (through MX records). My e-mail is received well for users created in exchange, but e-mails bounce back for users still on the old server. The error message is : #550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipNotFound ; not found ##
How do I set up exchange so that it uses MX records appropriately and retries the different servers before giving up?

In EMC under Organization config > Hub Transport select the Send Connectors tab. Choose Properties on your default connector. Click the Network tab in the Properties dialogue box. Make sure it is set to use DNS "MX" records. You could even try the last option for the External DNS if this doesnt work.
Sorry - misread the question. ATIG is correct with the splitting of the namespace routing.

Yes I have recepient filtering on the Edge server

Yes, the domain name is the same for the old and the new system

The two mail servers are actually on a different IP range (networks), so I guess I have to setup an external relay for the name space. Is this the right approach?

Exactly how? By creating an external relay as the servers are in different networks?

If you are using the same name- then Internal Relay
If 2 different names which is sounds like its not then External Relay
If 2 different names which is sounds like its not then External Relay
