Sync Windows Mobile 6.0 with exchange 6.0

I upgraded my Windows Mobile 5.0 to WM 6.0 on my Tytn.
Now I can't get outlook to sync or get mail from our exchange server.

I tried to install Activesync on our  SBS2003 server but for some reason it won't install right.

Anybody has a step by step tutorial on how to make it work?
Is it possible to sync with echange without Activesync?

Standard Server Configuration
Prepare Clients Exchange Server
Configure the clients Outlook Mobile Access on the server.
1.      Click Start à Programs à Microsoft Exchange à System Manager to open the Exchange System Management Console.
2.      Expand Global Settings, right-click Mobile Services and select Properties.
3.      Ensure that all options on the General tab of the Mobile Services Properties page are selected and click OK.
4.      Click Start à Settings à Control Panel à Administrative Tools à Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager to open the IIS Management Console.
5.      Expand the local web server.
6.      Expand Web Sites.
7.      Expand Default Web Site.
8.      Right-click on the Exchange virtual directory and select All Tasks à Save Configuration to a File.
9.      Enter the file name of ExchangeVDir and the path of X:\_admin\ExchangePullOut, where X is the drive that the _admin folder exists on and click OK.

The Exchange virtual directory should already be configured to use SSL.  If it is not, you will need to configure it to use SSL before proceeding.  When you create the certificate, the external DNS name to the Exchange web site is the same as the one the client will use to access their OWA i.e. exchange.somesite.com.  This site must be an externally accessible domain address and must match the Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) site to be used.  If it does not match your mobile clients will not be able to connect and you will receive errors when attempting a synchronization.

10.      Right-click on the Default Web Site and select New à Virtual Directory (from file).
11.      Browse the file you created in step 9 and select Read File.
12.      Select Exchange and click OK.
13.      Choose Create a new virtual directory, type the name exchange-oma in the Alias field and click OK.
14.      Right-click on the exchange-oma directory and select Properties.
15.      Select the Directory Security tab.
16.      Click Edit in the Secure Communications section.
17.      Deselect Require secure channel (SSL) and click OK.
18.      Click Start à Run, type in regedit and click OK.
19.      Browse to the following registry key: \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MasSync\Parameters
20.      Create a new string registry key (REG_SZ) and name the key ExchangeVDir with a string value of /exchange-oma.

The key name and registry value are both case sensitive and must be entered exactly as outlined above.  Any deviation will cause the mobile clients failures when attempting to synchronize.

21.      Restart all Exchange Services.

It is important not to change the clients existing configuration, any services that are already selected should be left as is.  Outlook Mobile Access (OMA) uses the same port forwarding on the router as Outlook Web Access (OWA) and RPC over HTTPS, if either of these two services are already selected then nothing further needs to be configured on the router.  If however they are not, then you will need to forward the following port on the customers router:
Business Web Site = 80
OWA/OMA/RPC over HTTPS = 443

22.      Click Start à Settings à Control Panel à Administrative Tools à Active Directory Users and Computers to open the Active Directory Users and Computers Management Console.
23.      Expand the local domain.
24.      Select Users OU or the respective OU of the users you need to configure.
25.      Right-click on each user and Select Properties.
26.      Select the Exchange Features tab.
27.      Ensure that the top three options are Enabled and that the remaining three are Enabled, Using Protocol Defaults.  Click OK to continue.

Domain and Client Configuration
Prepare Clients IIS Server
Configure the clients Exchange Access on the server.
1.      Click Start à Settings à Control Panel à Administrative Tools à Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager to open the IIS Management Console.
2.      Expand the local web server.
3.      Expand Web Sites.
4.      Right-click on the Default Web Site and select Properties.
5.      While on the web site tab, ensure that SSL port is set to 443.
6.      Click on the Advanced button.
7.      You are presented with a list of host header values.  By default you will see:
8.      Click the Add button.
9.      Enter the 80 in the TCP port field, enter the external domain name (the same one that was issued to the SSL certificate) in the Host Header value field and click OK.
10.      You should also enter in the same information for a host record and a local domain dns record.  When you are finished, your screen should look something like this:
11.      Click OK.

You should also create a record on the local dns server to reflect the above listed host record.  In all cases the dns record will be an Alias (CNAME) record.  In this example, the dns record would be exchange.somesite.local and it would reference the host record of the Exchange server.

12.      Select the Directory Security tab.
13.      Click View Certificate to open the assigned certificate for this site.

The Exchange web site should already be configured to use SSL.

14.      Click on the Details tab and choose Copy to file to start the Certificate Export Wizard.
15.      Click Next.
16.      Choose No, do not export the private key and Click Next.
17.      Choose DER encoded binary X.509 (.CER) and Click Next.
18.      Click Browse and place the certificate in a known shared folder on the server.  The _admin folder on Standard Servers or the ClientApps folder on small business server folders.  Once you have selected a folder, name the file, select OK and click Next.
19.      Click Finish.

Configure the clients mobile device to use Exchange ActiveSync.
1.      Designate a temporary host computer.

The temporary host computer must have ActiveSync installed on it.

2.      Install the certificate that you exported earlier to the temporary host computer by browsing to the certificate and double-clicking on it to install the certificate.  Choose all default options.
3.      Connect the mobile device to the temporary host computer.
4.      Once a partnership has been established and you can access the Explore option in ActiveSync, click on Explore.
5.      With the mobile devices Explore window open, copy the certificate that you exported earlier to the mobile device by opening a new Explorer window to the location of the certificate and copy the certificate to the mobile devices Explore window.  Click OK on the error message.

While many mobile devices will normally allow you to use these instructions to copy a certificate to them, there are some that will not allow for the certificate to be copied to them.  Refer to the manual of each device and use the procedure outlined therein to complete the certificate installation.

6.      On the mobile device, locate the File Explorer application and browse to the location on the mobile device that you copied the certificate.
7.      Once you have found the certificate, tap once on it to initiate the installation.
8.      After you have successfully installed the certificate, you can configure the Exchange ActiveSync connection on the mobile device.

While many mobile devices will normally allow you to use these instructions to configure Exchange ActiveSync, there are some that will use different options or menus.  Refer to the manual of each device and use the procedure outlined therein to complete the Exchange ActiveSync configuration.
