The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Outlook is trying to retrieve data problem...

Asked by rbma in Exchange Email Server, Outlook Groupware Software, Windows 2003 Server

Hi, we have installed a MS Exchange 2003 server with approximately 100 mailboxes. Our users keep reporting they are getting the message in Outlook saying outlook is trying to retrieve data from the ms exchange server. Most of our users are webmail users. Originally I thought it was a problem with the speeds of the hard drives, so I upgraded all the hard drives and installed three separate RAID cards. The new specs are...
System: IBM x3200 Server
CPU: 2 x 2Ghz
RAM: 4GB
NIC: GB Nic
OS: Windows 2003 Server Std
Software: MS Exchange 2003 Enterprise Ed, no other applications or processes are running (no antivirus, emails are scanned via the Messagelabls service before they come to our server, both incoming and outgoing)
RAID CARD 1 (mirrored array w/2 Sata HDDs): OS (partition 1), Pagefile (partition 2)
RAID CARD 2 (mirrored stripped array w/4 Sata HDDs): Transaction Logs (partition 1), second partition is empty (partition 2)
RAID CARD 3 (mirrored stripped array w/4 Sata HDDs): Mailbox databases (partition 1), SMTP Queue and MTA Queue (partition 2)
The Exchange server is a domain controller and the GC. We do not currently use the domain for anything except the email. Our workstations are not on a domain and we will be moving the GC to a new domain controller this week.

The biggest problem with this message is it tends to slow down the workstations with outlook on it. Outlook freezes for a few seconds until the message goes away. I have been reading the numerous postings on this subject, but haven't found much to help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Start Free Trial
