reapi.dll is the routing engine.
Therefore the first thing I would point my finger at is anything that is scanning SMTP traffic. Antivirus, antispam etc. Antivirus plugins can also cause store.exe failures.
Presuming that the server is fully up to date the first thing I would do is remove the AV software - both Exchange and file level. See if the server settles down. You may have to reboot it afterwards. If you have antispam software on there as well then that may have to be removed too.

Simon.

Hi Sembee

I am still looking into this - waiting for a response from Frisk

I'm running Exchange 2003 SP2 on Windows 2003 R2. I just completed a swing migration from our old mail server (W2003 SP2 w/ EX2003 SP2). Downloaded the new version of F-Prot for Exchange 2.0.2 and bang, store.exe crashing continuously with the error:

Faulting application store.exe, version 6.5.7652.24, faulting module reapi.dll, version 6.5.7638.1, fault address 0x0002c599.

Uninstalled F-Prot and thankfully everything back to normal. I'm considering installing the previous version of F-Prot that I have on file. It makes me nervous though.

You either have to get a response from the AV provider or use something else. I have never seen F-Prot on any Exchange server I have worked on, so cannot really comment on the quality of their product.

I had the F-Prot for Exchange v.1.2.1 running on my old mail server, W2003 SP2 and EX2003 SP2 for 2 years. Worked great.

I'm going post in the vendors forum and test in my lab when I return to the office and see if I can recreate the problem.

I've still not had a response from Frisk but it is encouraging (in one sense) to know that someone else has had the same problem.  Now maybe Frisk tech will take a proper look at the issue and do something about it !!

hi cmdown,

I'll be revisiting this thread this week. I'll post the results from my testing. Also, I'm going to be testing the GFI product for Exchange and the NOD32 product for Exchange. It's a shame, I just renewed my license for F-Prot  before building the new mail server.

I'm back in the US so I built a new Windows 2003 R2 + Exchange 2003 SP2 server for testing. All patches adn service packs are up-to-date.

I installed F-Prot 2.0.2 today, updated, rebooted and so far so good (no Store.exe errors). I sent the Eicar test viruses via http://www.aleph-tec.com/eicar/index.php and the software is functioning as expected.

The only difference with this test server and my production server is the test server is a Domain Controller. I'm stumped as to why the F-Prot software breaks the Exchange services on my other server.

Sorry for the double-post above, don't know what happened. Anyway, I spoke too soon. My test server is getting the same errors on startup as stated above.

Faulting application store.exe, version 6.5.7652.24, stamp 46152f9f, faulting module reapi.dll, version 6.5.7638.1, stamp 430e8138, debug? 0, fault address 0x0002c599.

I removed F-Prot and rebooted twice and am no longer getting any errors.

I have similar problem just happened yesterday - never had any problem like this for past 3 years..

It said: faulty application store.exe version 6.5.7653.38, faulting module exoledb.dll

However this discussion was referring to reapi.dll even my case is referring to exoledb.dll

Is this still pointing to AV ?

Any ideas?

I'll look into this (thanks for the suggestion) however this topic doesn't really confirm the acceptable solution "forced"..

I'm curious - will this "hotfix" fix this kind of problem:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944254

The problem is - when I click the hotfix link - wasn't sure if that's the same hotfix I'm hoping to download...
