Description of network
2003 AD
Single domain
1 Exchange 2003 SP2
Added Exchnge 2007 SP1 server
Mail flow from Exchange 2003 --> 2007 does not work. 2007 to 2003 works.
What i have done to try to resolve
1. test Telnet 25 to Exhange 2007 server from Exchange 2003 server Works.. able to send message thru telnet
2. Disabled Syamtnec for Exchange
3. NO we don't have any smarthosts on the virtual server
4. Yes we have a SMTP connector to an Antispams server
5. Deleted the bidirectional routing group conectors and recreated using the cmdlets Cost 1
6. deleted and recreated the SMTP connector in step 4..gave cost of 10
7. Increased loggin see that messages get sumbitted to Queue then they just sit their
8. exhchange 2007 was serviced packed just the other day to SP1 wish we tested flow before that..
if you highlight the queue after doing a force connect the notification area says "the remote server did not respond to a connection attemp" which doesn't make sense since it can be pinged by name and by ip.
My next step would be to put a sniffer on the network to see what the heck is going on..
Any help would be great.. we are not down since only one mailbox exists on the 2007 server.. and its just a new test box.
thanks

Hello,
We do not have a SmartHost set in the Smtp virtual server. Mail Flows out to internet just fine.. Mail flows from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2003. The mail from Exchange 2003 DOES NOT flow to Exchange 2007. I ran the Mail flow Troublshooter on the Exhchange 2007 server and here are the results I get.
Ping (Don't fragment = 'True' and buffer size = 4096) from server mpsmail to remote server mps-mail.mydomainreplaced.
Remote server mps-mail.mydomainreplaced.
BOTH server are on same HP 5400 switch.. both in same network. Exchange 2003 NAME mpsmail Exchange 2007 name mps-mail
thanks for your help.
Hello,
All services with "symantec" as the name have been disabled. However tomorrow afternoon when i am on site i am going to remove the products anyways. I might also re-apply Exchange Service pack 2. what is scary is if i delete all Connectors.. including the bidirectional and the connector to our spam server for outgoing mail. the server can't send internet mail out.. it all ques up...leaveing error 4003s saying the remote computer didn't respond to the connection attemp. DNS resolution it good.. the ips it trys to connect to are the mx records.. as soon as i put back the connector to the spam server.(our outgoing smtp connecor) bingo all the mail shoots over to the spam server and out to the internet.. telent to port 25 works fine from the server..
thanks
Strange thing with deleting the connectors - it should still be able to email out provided your corporate firewall does not lock down smtp outbound.
I think you need to see if your smtp server on your 03 box is working correctly.
What about if you just have a single connector using DNS to route mail? If you could get this to work it would prove it.
Other options:
If the above works, but you still cannot go 03>07 direction... what about setting the properties on the exchange smtp virtual server to send all unresolved recipients to the 07 server?
Or something along those lines of thought?
Try the first thing anyway.

Check that your 2003 and 2007 server are a member of the ExchangeLegacyInterop security group.
