Question

Connecting to Exchange through VPN

Asked by: cybrosh

I have an Exchange Server 2003, and a client using outlook 2007 on his laptop. Using XP based PPTP VPN client, he's connecting to the network(needs resources so over HTTPS is not needed right now)but is unable to connect to the exchange server. "Your exchange server is unavailable". I've enabled the "cached mode" but the process only hangs longer before telling me that he can't open the default mail folders. Any ideas?

Are you using the fully qualified name of the  exchange serverin the mail profile?

(Control Panel>mail>Email Accounts>Exchange Settings)

Yes, I am using the FQDN as the server name. It recognizes it and the name of the mailbox/user(requests username/password). The message appears when I open Outlook 2007 and at some times when I play with the setting through the mail profile.

I've changed the Dialers' DNS settings to the server's IP address, and it seemed to be working. Made a few tests, will continue tomorrow, from a remote site and see what happens.

Ok...done. Changing the DNS worked.
