How can I forward all mail sent to a particular security/distribution group to an individual user?

We are running Exchange Server 2003 within our organization and one user would like to be BCC'd on all mail that is sent to a particular distribution group.  Is this possible?  I understand that I can forward mail sent to an individual user to another user through delivery options, but cannot find anything similar to this within the distribution group properties.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

The only way I know that you would do this would be through a mailbox based rule. For example create/add a resource mailbox (such as reception or similar) and make that mailbox a member of the distribution list. From there logon to the reception mailbox and create a server based rule through outlook's rules wizard that forwards any mail recieved from the Distribution list to the individual user who needs to review mails sent to the list.

Can't you just make him a member of the group?

He specifically does not want anyone to know that he is receiving the same mail that is going to the members that are part of the group.  His is a VP and wants to get mail sent to our staff of engineers without anyone being the wiser.
I believe thats what I provided you .... as has mass2612.
I don't like the idea of using rules, they are ugly and ineffective.

There are still numerous ways of achieving this.

You can create a new distribution group with an vague name like "backup engineering group" add that to the existing distro, and add your VP to that.

And that is just off the top of my head.

There are a few other ways, if you don't want to mess around with a rule.

On a slightly different angle to this question I would ask is, what the VP wants to do "Legal and complies with company/country law".

Certainly where I work this request would be kicked out the door. While I understand and accept that every company has the right to monitor email for abuse, etc, but does one person have the right to actively monitor a set of engineers without their knowledge or consent and perhaps without company consent?  I would see further advise from your legal dept or compliance dept if you have one.

I find the request by the VP to be rather strange indeed.

well, that is my two cents worth.

regards
I am not a lawyer, check with your state and country blah blah

But, the fact that this is a company group distribution list, and not an individuals mailbox, should get them out of trouble.

That makes 4 cents :)
Yeah yeah....:-))
The company I work for is an American company and as such they would not allow such a request. Since Mazzo in the Americas I thought i'd post a reply. Mailbox or DL, dosen't make much difference.

maybe things are different in Oz. :-)

I'm outa here...

Dude, I wish.  Out privacy laws are retarded - it is illegal for us to have video cameras on our baggage handlers while they work (which is fair enough, considering they are responsible for like 90% of the drugs coming into the country)...
