Make sure there not running in cached mode, do a send recieve, and you may have to rebuild or update the recipient policy on the exchange server. sometime with many users it takes a second to respond

Hi,

can you open Active Directory Users and computers and first locate user here. Once you have it, can you open its properties and click on e-mail address tab. Does user have e-mail address assigned?

Then click on Exchange Advanced tab on the User and make sure that he is not hidden in the Address Book... (check mark next to Hide from Exchange Address Book)...

How long has it been since you created the account?

Not running in cached mode on the PC I am setting the user up on,  have rebuilt the offline address book and downloaded to other clients but the new user is still not listed. I am right in assuming that when creating a new mail profile and adding a new exchange account that the client will pull down the GAL from the exchange.

User is not hidden from address book, email address is there but was not assigned by recipient policy - could recipient policy have corrupt?

by: mihapiPosted on 2008-01-04 at 09:49:39ID: 20584436

Can you open Exchange System Manager and expand Recipient policies. Here click on Recipient Update Service (RUS). Now you should see at least two policies in right menu.

Can you right click them and select "Rebuild" (both of them).

Wait few minutes and then check Global Address List to see if users appears there.

Account was created a couple of days ago so should have updated the GAL ok. The account does appear in the GAL when previewed in System Manager. An alternate account was created today a few hours ago so this account may not have appeared in all the downloaded GAL's so we rebuilt the offline address and downloaded but the user is still not in there.

Hi,

if user is hidden in Address Book, you will not be able to resolve it. You must unhide it, resolve it and then you can hide it back again.

you will not be able to create an outlook profile for this user unless it has been stamped and processed by the recipient update service
you mentioned that you assigned the email address manually, so that means that RUS is not working properly
check the application log on the server for issues related to RUS and try the "update now" option in the properties of the domain RUS

by: AGCITPosted on 2008-01-04 at 10:39:51ID: 20584902

good question did you rebuild the RUS? along with the OAB?

by: Exchange_AdminPosted on 2008-01-04 at 11:53:21ID: 20585528

rakeshmiglani is on the riight track here.
If you manually add the email addresses then the mailbox attributes have not been created properly.
The RUS does much more than just assign email addresses to AD accounts. It assigns users to address lists such as the GAL.
You need to troubleshoot the RUS. Get this where it is correctly processing AD accounts and your problem should be resolved.

I think the problem was related to RUS. Last thing Friday we rebuilt each RUS, as Mike (mihapi) suggested, which put hundreds of information entries about Address List Synchronsation into the app log, the server was rebooted on Saturday and everything sorted it's self out.

Thanks for the help everyone.
