go to the toolbox section in there there is a public folder management console

by: sraleyPosted on 2008-01-16 at 04:36:40ID: 20671189

I don't see this in toolbox. I see best practices analyzer, database recovery management, database troubleshooter, mail flow troubleshooter, message tracking, queue viewer, performance monitor and performance troubleshooter.

may be a command shell command to install it

according to microsoft this tool should be installed with SP1

by: sraleyPosted on 2008-01-16 at 04:42:02ID: 20671221

I downloaded and installed the PFDAVAdmin utility and that connects but doesn't allow me to do anything. clicking on system folders I see an error that it couldn't expand.

by: sraleyPosted on 2008-01-16 at 04:42:30ID: 20671223

I just downloaded SP1 because I'm not sure if it already installed or not.

The toolbox to manage public folder is available after SP1 for E2k7.
check the link below to create pf

through outlook you can easily manage permission

I was focusing on creating and managing public folers..

Re-read your question...please use Outlook 2003 or 2007 to create Calendar in pf

The install of E2k7 is different from earlier versions...in E2k7 first it removes the existing installtion of E2k7 and re-installs exchange 2k7 SP1

by: ZanemwestPosted on 2008-01-16 at 05:04:39ID: 20671364

mohd is correct that is because of the significant changes however it retains all the config so nothing to worry about there

by: sraleyPosted on 2008-01-16 at 05:22:36ID: 20671489

i've already tried from a client to access the public folder and create another folder of calendar items and it says I do not have permissions. You are telling me I can manage public folders using toolbox but I don't have snap in since I don't have SP1. How else can I create the calendar in public folders? The PFDAVAdmin utility allows me to connect to public folder on my server and add accounts with permissions but does not save them. I can't even click okay or cancel to exit the utility.

Use Outlook for calendar creation and permission management

by: mohdabsarPosted on 2008-01-16 at 05:59:52ID: 20671808

You would need to create pf hierachy and decide where you want to give users permissions.

Give permission on particular level to user and then ask them to create calendar on that level

in exchange console under server config -mailbox I see a second storage group with public folder database and its mounted. I can see this in the folder list of outlook 2007. I can not figure out how to add the permissions. That was my original questions. I see no where in console and I see no where in outlook even logged into the administrator mail account through outlook. Do I need to upgrade to SP1 just to get these features to give permissions on the public folder database?

by: ZanemwestPosted on 2008-01-16 at 06:13:07ID: 20671954

you need the public folder admin console to do this there is no other way

going into an outlook 2007 client as the administrator, seeing administrator mailbox and right clicking on public folders, change share permissions is greyed out.

I got it working. There is a folder under public folders called public folders with the synchronize icon. It lets me do anything in here I want. I guess the upper level is not allowed or something.
