Restoring A Mail Store to Recovery Storage Group

Asked by coenewnes in Exchange Email Server

Tags: Microsoft, Exchange, 2003

We have migrated all of our mailboxes from one large store to 5 smaller stores to aid in restoring.  My question is that now I have an empty mail store that still takes up over 100GB of my mail server storage.  Can I just delete this or do I need it around for future restores.  We will have to do restores that were made from the one large mail store.

I asked a question earlier that is very similar but I wasn't specific enough.  Can this store be unmounted and deleted off the server without causing all of our previous backups to become unusable?  I know that when a restore is done it can be done right into the Recovery Storage Group but does the original store need to be in the Exchange System Manager for that to work?  If it needs to be there I can just run an eseutil.exe /d and shrink it way down but that takes time and processing power both of which I would like to avoid.

We use Veritas 9.1 Backup Exec for backups...

If any other information is needed please let me know, I will be checking this frequently.
Thanks for any help in advance,
