It sounds like your Exchange server is being used as a relay for spammers.  Read this and implement before opening up your server to the internet. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324958

Hi Kutyi,
i have tried to follow the telnetting instruction but i couldn't generate what is suppose to be happening as per instruction. our servername is mail.st-theresas.school.nz and tried the command "telnet mail.st-theresas.school.nz 25" but it came back wtih connection failed.
thanks

OK I see you MX records points to mx1.iserve.net.nz, I assume they provide some sort of Anti-spam service for you then forward your email to you.  Setup your firewall to allow only smtp connections from their (mx1.iserve.net.nz) IP subnet.  This way port 25 will only respond to your provider and no one can slip in the back door and use you as a relay....alot easier then following Microsoft instructions.  Have you public DNS provider setup an "A"record for mail.st-theresas.school.nz to point to your public IP address.  Have your ISP setup a rDNS (Reverse DNS) entry pointing your mail.st-theresas.school.nz to your public IP address, I assume this is the server name you used in the smtp connector setup on Exchange.  After you restrict the firewall to accept smtp, 25, from your anti-spam provider then you can be ready to accept mail.

Hi Kutyi,
I think you are taking me to the right direction here i just need more know how. Not exactly sure where is this firewall and settings i need to configure to restrict port 25 to my provider. At the moment I configure all the email to pop provided by iserve until i resolve the problem with our exchange. i think this firewall and restriction is the answer to my problem as you pointed out I just don't where in our system i am going to go.
Thanks,
abel

OK, then.  You can't telnet mail.st-theresas.school.nz because their is no "A" record setup in DNS pointing your IP address, this is done by your external DNS provider. In other words mail.st-theresas.school.nz does not resolve to an IP address.  If you are going to accept incoming connections then follow the instructions in my original post, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324958
