Hosted Exchange Archiving

Tags: Exchange, Archiving, GFI, Symantec
I am just putting this one out there. There are no right or wrong answers it's more of just a discussion really. I have 30-40 clients all on Exchange who refuse to pay for an Email Archiving solution. They are all relying on PSTs and I am seriously dreading the day they need to refer back to something and it's either not there, pst is corrupt or they just can't find the pst because the finger will end up being pointed at me even though this has be addressed over a dozen times. I am trying to get them to sign a waiver or sorts to at least cover me in the event this does happen saying they opted out of an Archiving solution. That being said here is what I want to do...

At home I currently have 6 HP Proliant DL380 G5's. 2 are connected to a storage array with ~ 7TB of storage. I have a business class cable connection coming in that is currently 50/50 so bandwidth is not an issue at all. I would like to figure out a way to remotely archive these clients emails to this cluster I have. It it were a single client I would have no problem. I would just create a VPN tunnel from my hour to their office (ASA 5510 here, ASA 5505 there) and use either Symantec of GFI to Archive.

It's still kind of early and I am only on my 1st cup of coffee so if I missed anything or this sounds crazy let me know. I won't be offended...

Thanks in Advance.

The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!
