User ID task reported error (0x8004010f) The operation failed. An object cannot be found.

Hello,

We are running Exchange 2007 sp1, with outlook 2007. the system works fine bar one error, the default address book isn't updating within Outlook. And if a user clicks send/receive - download address book. The user gets error "User ID "ask reported error (0x8004010f) The operation failed. An object cannot be found."

Does any one have any ideas?

If the user looks in IE and goes to OWA the address book is there and upto date.

Use this method to resolve this problem when you view Properties in the Address lists setting in Exchange System Manager:

1. In Exchange System Manager, expand the Recipients container.
2. Click the Offline Address Lists container.
3. In the right pane, right-click the offline address list object, and then click Properties.
4. On the General tab, verify that a valid address list is populated under Address lists. If a    valid address list is not populated under Address lists, you must add one.
*Note The default address is the global address list.*
5. Click OK.
6. Right-click the offline address list object again, and then click Set as New Default if the offline address list object is not set.  
7. If you made any changes, right-click the offline address list object again, and then click Rebuild.

These solutions are nonsense.  The actual issue is much deeper than this, and has to do with Exchange 2007's new "AutoDiscover" service, which is very difficult to setup.  I've been running Exchange 2007 since before it was release publicly and have yet to fix this.

If you enabled Ms-Outlook cash mode try to disable it

Note: what is Exchange rollup version you are running

What is "MS-Outlook cash mode"  Did you mean "crash", if so, I still don't know what that means.

We are running Exchange 2007 SP3 on an Dell PowerEdge 2950 with 8 CPUs and 6GB of RAM, Windows 2003 R2, 64-bit Enterprise OS.  I have spent well into 40+ hours trying to fix this "AutoDiscover" stuff, and have still had no luck.

I get this as well..almost identical configuration.

He doesn't mean 'crash' he means 'Cached mode' in outlook. This doesn't resolve the issue, it just hides it. The GAL is up to date, but the OAB doesn't DOWNLOAD. When in non-cached mode you DIRECTLY access the GAL on the exchange server and everything is perfectly fine. Try to download the OAB manually, welcome to sameolderrorsVille, Population: You. (and me)
