Exchange 2007 Public Folder Problem

With the help of a local contractor we recently migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 (SP1). There were the usual issues but were up and running. We were assured the Exchange 2003 server was completely removed and safe to find a new use for. So the old server is gone. Heres the problem.
After re-starting the Exchange 2007 Server last night it came up with a Public Folder Error.

Get-PublicFolderDatabase Public Folder Database has been corrupted and it is in an inconsistent state. The item ee0c94d2&.. in public folder referral does not reference an existing server.

Seems pretty clear its looking for our old Exchange 2003 Server.

I discovered replication was left on and was able to remove it for every Public Folder except the System Folders\Event Root folder.

Database repair failed with this error. Isinteg The handle is invalid
The Public Information Store does mount but the clients cannot connect to it.

I have called our vendor (4 hours ago) but thought I would post my situation here in the hope there is a way to recover this data. Im not sure a restore from backup will even help since the problem seems to be the missing old server.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
