Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Exchange 2007 server not receiving from an ISP email service.

Greetings experts,
I've recently implemented an Exchange 2007 server. This server hosts two companies each with a separate domain name (company1.com and company2.com) that is authorized by the Exchange server. When a new user is added to AD and configured with a mailbox they are given multiple email addresses, one of which is set to primary based on the company the user works for. Many of the users have a personal email (personal@isp.net) that they get from a local ISP. If an email is sent from personal@isp.net to user_a@company2.com (user_a's primary email address) the email is not received and it is not kicked back to the sender. However if personal@isp.net sends an email to user_a@company1.com (another email address assigned to user_a, but not primary) the email is received. User_a receives any other emails to the user_a@company2.com address, but emails from any user who has an email address @isp.net is unable to send to the @company2.com address. Example: me@gmail.com gets to user_a@company2.com fine; me@isp.net does not reach user_a@company2.com and is not kicked back. I did an outside HELO test on user_a@company2.com and all was fine. The @isp.net domain is NOT blocked by any spam filter. The employees of isp.net think that the error is on my end. If it is I have no idea what to do to fix this one so I am asking for your help.

I should also add that there are no problems if user_a@company2.com sends an email to personal@isp.net. There are no sending issues whatsoever from the user_a@company2.com address.

what is th error code that the users are getting when the email for company 2 address from isp.net is kicked back.

ok it looks like isp.net is not set properly to lookup DNS, Because u are able to receive emails from internet then ur side looks good to me,should be an issue with eh isp.net side.

I'm having the ISP check their settings. I sent them the good HELO test results I received. I did recently have the web and email hosting moved to a new public name server. The old name server was the one used by this ISP. Maybe they just need to clear their DNS settings. Emails from the ISP's domain are the only ones not getting through, so that could be it. I'll let you know when I know more.
