Hi, I have an Exchange2007 sp1 server and want the ability to allow authenticated relay for non hosted domains (accepted domain). My current setup works but only if the accepted domain and email address exists within the domain. Anonymous is allowed on the client within the Transport Hub. I have been through many articles but havent been able to find how to do so and any help would very much appriciated.
No the client connector doesnt do it, if the domain name and email address exists then it works but not from an external domain (without allowing anonymous - this opens relay altogether). I have read through this but no joy - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997170.aspx
On exchange 2003 I could create a new user (without a mailbox) and grant that user relay permission and it works, I am looking for something similar.
There is nothing that I am aware of that confirms it - it is just something that I have observed. However researching to see whether I could find something threw up this: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/12/28/432013.aspx
Don't forget that there was a major change in SMTP behaviour between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007. In Exchange 2003 Exchange just used IIS SMTP, so it was independent of Exchange. With Exchange 2007 it has its own SMTP stack, so Exchange controls access.
