Unable to retrieve mails to the Inbox

When connecting Entourage 2008 to Exchange 2007 server, it is taking a lot of time in retrieving mails to the Inbox even it is unable to do it sometimes. The account is created to connect to the Exchange Server via a secure connection, can you please guide us why it is taking so long to retrieve mails.
