Hello;
During what should have been a simple exchang 2003 to exchange 2003 migration (migrating from one exchange server to a new server) I ran into this problem. Migrating the mailboxes went fine, as did re-homing the RUS, routing master, etc.--all the usual stuff.
However, rather than trying Public Folder replication to the new server (which seems glitchy and takes forever) I decided I would just export the contents of a public folder to a PST file (which I did), then I'd just make a new Public Folder Tree from scratch, and import the data. Probably my first mistake.
So I deleted the old Public Folder Tree AND Public Folder Store. The problem is I can't create a new one that actually works. More specifically: I created a new Public Folder Tree and Public Folder STore under the server object. However, the public folder tree oboject shows up in BLUE color, rather than the usual TAN. Also, none of the usual system folders exist within it, includign the OAB, Free+Busy info, etc. And of course users cannot access the PF from Outlook.
I've obviously created an essentially "blank" set of public folders. What I need to do is re-create the "default" or "system" public folder which holds the Free+Busy, OAB, and whatever else is necessary to actually USE the public folders from an Outlook (MAPI) client.
I have the contents of the public folder from the original server saved to a PST.
I'm okay with losing any Free+Busy info, etc. I have the data I need--just need to make it work.
I'm suprised its not easier.
PS--I also went through the steps of using Microsoft GUID generator to assigna new GUID to the public folder, which didn't change anything.
I've attached a screen shot of the ESM showing the blue-colored public folder tree. The fact that its blue tells me that its not the right "type" of PFT.
Help! Hope this explanation makes sense. Thanks in advance.
