Creating MX records in AD and for internal and external domains

Asked by calljdub in Exchange Email Server, Active Directory

Can I add MX records in our Active Directory that
use our PUBLIC DNS name to help with (internal) AutoDiscovery?

- Our internal (example.test.com) and external domain names (test.com) are different.
- We currently have no MX records in our internal DNS, but both internal and external email flow is fine.
- Our ISP maintains our MX record
- We have two Exchange 2007 servers

      10.1.1.47   exchange12.example.test.com
      10.1.1.23   exchange13.example.test.com

The current configuration for the AutoDiscovery Service is:
AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri : https://exchange.test.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

Some internal Outlook users are hanging and unable to download the Address Book.  If I manually add a host record for 10.1.1.47 / "exchange.test.com" on their workstations they are able to download the
Offline Address Book and no Outlook hangs.

To help internal Outlook users resolve the autodiscovery inside URL, can I create (additional) internal MX
records that use the outside domain name?

MX   10.1.1.47    exchange12.test.com
MX   10.1.1.23    exchange13.test.com
MX   10.1.1.47   exchange12.example.test.com
MX      10.1.1.23   exchange13.example.test.com
