Browse All TopicsWe have exchange smtp server configured under ports to use 25 and 99. When I confgure my Outlook client, I set the smtp server port to use 99 and the test connection works and everything, but when I choose 25 outlook gives me failed to connect error.

Some ISP's prevent home users from connecting to servers other than their own on port 25.
Orange UK is one that sticks in my mind. Easiest way to check is to run cmd and type
telnet yourserverip 25 (ie telnet 122.211.0.1 25).
If the ISP has blocked it you will get an error message such as "This port is blocked to prevent spam, please change your smtp address to smtp.orange.co.uk"
Obviously this does not apply if you are trying to connect on your internal LAN.
