The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Exchange 2007 autodiscovery stops Outlook Anywhere from working

Asked by Bertling in Exchange Email Server, Windows Server 2008

Tags: Microsoft, Exchange, 2007, auto discover, outlook anywhere

I have been fighting with this bug for some time now, the details of the setup are as follows:

OS: Windows server 2008 standard
Exchange 2007 SP1 standard hosting mailbox, CAS and hub transport roles (only 1 server)

1 SSL certificate with only 1 CN which is mai.mydomain.com
Outlook Anywhere enabled and working
OWA enabled and working with no cert errors

our external email domain is mydomain.com e.g. name.here@mydomain.com

as we have 1 domain name regesterd in our SSL cert (mail.mydomain.com) autodiscovery kicks up a fuss because autodiscovery.mydomain.com and mydomain.com and internalexchname.mydomain.local foules the CN on the cert.

as we only want autodiscovery to work internal to the domain i have played about with the internal DNS server and added a SRV record which points to the internal exchange server.
I have then set EVERY internal and external URL (even on the EWA) as mail.mydomain.com

now when we open outlook 2007 the OAB and out of office assistant works perfect with no cert issues!

with that setup and working here is my very strange problem...

if i open my outlook 2007 mailbox profile it connects fine and every thing works.
Then heres the strange bit outlook anywhere stops working for all other users. when they try to log in they get the Authentication box which keeps popping up for them to re enter their password.

to fix this i restart the WWW service on the exchange server.
then everyone can enter their password and it works again.

but as soon as any one using outlook 2007 opens their mailbox local again, outlook anywhere stops  again! then i have to reset WWW.

so for now i have removed the SRV record so outlook anywhere is not disturbed for ext users.

but ofcourse we using outlook 2007 in the office cannot download the OAB or use out of office assistant.

if anyone can point me in to the correct direction this will be great.

thanks
mike
