Exchange 2007 Group Calendar

I want to create a series of calendars in exchange 2007 without using a public folder since exchange will be getting rid of these eventually.
I want to create the calendar by department or group.  Eg a Company Calendar, a Training Calendar, a support calendar and so on...

The calendar should be easily added by people in the respective groups like public folder calendars were.

The calendars should be easily accessible from OWA.

When I create a 'room' mailbox, no one can see the mailbox in the global catelog.  I am rather frustrated because I cannot find any material to tell how MS plans on replacing this valuable feature in the newer versions of exchange without public folders.

The Room mailbox is the route to take.

Please read following

That is interesting info but it does not tell me how to add the calendar to my user's outlook or owa.
you grant full Mailbox access to your users on these calendars & then you can add them to Outlook.

For OWA when you open your Mailbox in OWA on your right hand top you should see your name, a little drop down menu there would help you open another users mailbox.

you can open these room mailboxes this way ( keep in mind you need to grant full mailbox access before you open them in your outlook /OWA)
Please Read the first line in the previous post as ---you grant full Mailbox access to your users on these "Room mailbox" & then you can add them to Outlook

I know how to add permissions,  but how do I add them to outlook, wishful thinking does not help.

WTF?  So, I have to open the ENTIRE mailbox just to view the calendar? And I am gonna have to do this for every user in my organization?  Why can't I just add a calendar under calendars?
If you carefully read the first option in my previous post that will only help you open the calendar folder of room mailbox

My apologies, I thought I mentioned that whe nI go to "Open other user's folder" the room mailbox cannot be found.

Wait, it seems that I need to add the complete mail address... not just Training but training@domain.tld

That issue has been happening all over exchange 2007.  Does exchange not know how to resolve user@domain.tld<--->User ?  Same problem occurs when trying to send a user or doing a send-as,  you HAVE to select the name from the Global catelog.
are these 'Room mailbox" accounts that you have created disabled? could you quickly confirm that?
does the same thing happen with any other normal users mailbox ( I mean if you have granted full mailboxes on a normal users mailbox do you still face the same problem? )

Ignore my previous post please
Correct, please try to use the mailboxes alias only. by the way how are you granting the full mailbox access?

I was granting it through the GUI,  but I am finding more and more that I need to favor the shell, which is fine as long as I know the syntax. What command should I be using to give full permissions to the mailbox calendar?

Ok I can open the mailbox just fine as you mentioned in option #2.  However, I want to be able to use option #1 for everyone but I get this error:
"Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either ther eare network problems or the exchange computer is down for maintenance."
Now since I am looking at the calendar via option #2 I know it is available for access, so there must be some permission or something wrong.   Shouldn't this resource be listed in the GAL?

Im very close to getting this to work, are you gone for the day?
I'm sorry ..was away from my computer.I'm glad that you have something working now.

As far as the first option is concerned, when you click on Open Other users folder & click on 'Name" button do you not see the name in GAL?

Correct, all my users and contacts are listed but not the resource mailbox.

I am able to open the calendar in OWA, and I can open it and look at it as an alternate mailbox. But Share calendare, Change Sharing Permissions, and Send Via e-mail are all greyed out.
When Using the Add-MailboxPermission -Identity "Training" -User <username> -Accessright Fullaccess -InvertianceType all
The command lets me know the ACE is present, so I know I have full access...
I have only seen that to happen with Equipement Mailbox but room Mailbox are seen in GAL

I will create a new room mailbox and show you the steps I use in case something is off...

Create Box via GUI:Summary: 1 item(s). 1 succeeded, 0 failed. Elapsed time: 00:00:01Acton CalendarCompletedExchange Management Shell command completed:New-Mailbox -Name 'Acton Calendar' -Alias 'acalendar' -OrganizationalUnit 'acton.com/Users' -UserPrincipalName 'acalendar@acton.com' -SamAccountName 'acalendar' -FirstName 'Acton' -Initials '' -LastName 'Calendar' -Database 'HERMES\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database' -RoomElapsed Time: 00:00:01

Now I grant full permissions to myself.
Summary: 1 item(s). 1 succeeded, 0 failed. Elapsed time: 00:00:01ACTON\awalterCompletedExchange Management Shell command completed:Add-MailboxPermission -Identity 'CN=Acton Calendar,CN=Users,DC=acton,DC=com' -User 'ACTON\awalter' -AccessRights 'FullAccess'Elapsed Time: 00:00:01

Now I try to open calendar via outlook
"File->Open->Other User's Folder->Name...<not listed>
do an advanced find for Acton Calendar-Found
Now it opened! Lets try the same for the Training Calendar.  Advanced find...FOUND!

Ok now why can advanced find get it but not see it in GAL?  The search results point to the GAL as the location...is there a filter applied or something to Outlook 2007 Address books?

one more thing. are you in cached mode or Online mode. Advance find directly contacts GC to find the object, normal search in GAL depends on OAB.

So if you do not have correct OAB downloaded you will not see these objects in cahced mode.

Is this Outlook 2007? & is CAS installed on a separate server than your Mailbox server? is your FDS service functioning correctly.?
Avatar of ASW3382

ASKER

This is outlook 2007 and CAS is not installed on a separate server.
The outlook client is connected to exchange and is online.
I re-downloaded the GAL via send-receive and the two room objects are still not listed.
If anyone is still needs a solution to this problem. Here it is
Room Mailbox is created as a disabled or hidden  account by ...Default... and so it will be hidden from the GAL.  Solution is to enable and unhide . hope it helps someone !
