Question

Exchange 2007 remove dead front End Server/Roles

Asked by: BestWay

Hi

We have a dead Front End Exchange Server with the Client Access Role.

Now have only one server with all the roles, but the dead server still shown in the Client Access tab

When i try to connect to the webmail, i get access to the initial page(login), then when add user/pass, the url go to the dead server

I have the to remove the dead server, and have the only Exchange Server with all the roles, and the webmail direct to this server

My question is:

Since i have no server to uninstall the server, or roles, I need to remove the server manually

Removing the dead server, is the same procedure that we use for the Exchange 2003?

Can any one provide the steps for removing manually

Using Exchange 2007 and Windows 2008 Server

Thank you

There are no manual removal instructions.
The only way that you can remove a dead server is to install a temporary system with the same name. Then join it to the domain. You then carry out a recoverserver installation. Once complete, you can then remove Exchange correctly using add/remove programs.

Hi

Mesha thank you for the reply

So in the Exchange 2007, there is no way manual? Like in Exchange 2003?

If so, i think is more easy like this.

I take a try tomorrow

Thank you

I even used this method with Exchange 2003, cos manual removal was slow and easy to miss something. By letting the setup program remove it, the server will come out clean.

Hi

I have the new Server, but o cannot install because "The exchange server is in an inconsistent state, only server recovery is available"

Since i do not want to recover any database from the dead server, the new installation is not so easy.

As I wrote above you need to do a recoverserver installation.
That means using the command line.

Run setup.com /? and it will show you the commands to use.

Hi

Using the recover switch, its a bit different from the 2003(but much easier), and clean the dead server

The webmail page is ok. Now i only need to hide the local domain in the webmail, and all is ok

Thank you for the help
