Distribution List - Microsoft Exchange - External Email

Exchange 2000

Created a Distribution List (DL) -- abc@domain.com - Added members to the group. Allowed over 24 hours plus for replication to take affect.

Internally the DL works fine. When I do a test from an external account and attempt to email abc@domain.com I do not receive an NDR nor does the email reach its intended recipient. It seems to disappear into the ether. I checked my spam account and there is nothing in there.

Under the Exchange General Tab - Message Restrictions. Accept messages is set to "from everyone"

Therefore, is there a setting that overides this one that I may be missing? I need external people to be able to email abc@domain.com

Help, thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated.

You could always perform message tracking, but the problem is that you will not see anything go to a DL because Exchange will rip it apart and you should only see messages to the users.  Try performing message tracking using the from field, and enter where you sent it from.  See what you get and post it back

Forgive my ignorance. How is this done? I am testing from an external webmail address.
Open the Exchange System Manager on the server.  At the bottom, there is a Tools section and message tracking is in there.  Just add the sender that you want to track through the mail server and you are done.  By the way, you must have message tracking enabled on the server.  First drill down to the server in ESM (First Adminitrative group, Servers, and right click the server for properties.  Check the box for enable message tracking.
Ok. makes sense. Let me add that my exchange server is not the Front End Server. This resides at Corporate Head office. Therefore when I do a message tracker on the FE servers I find nothing. When I do a message tracker on my Exchange server it shows  messages but none of them are the test messages I sent to the DL. This would lead to the conclusion that it is not even hitting the FE server and/or it is being discarded.

Since I do not have control over that server what can I ask the IT team in HQ to possibly look for the correct his problem?
