Question

Your Server or Mailbox Names Cannot be Resolved

Asked by: etraxler

I have been trying to configure RPC/HTTPS on SBS 2003, which is also a Domain Controller.
I followed the steps described in this article http://www.petri.co.il/configure_rpc_over_https_on_a_single_server.htm. However, when I try to configure Outlook on a remote client PC, I keep getting an error message "Your Server or Mailbox Names Cannot be Resolved".

As this is SBS you shouldn't be configuring it manually. SBS will do everything for you.
All you need to do is run the Configure Internet and Email wizard and choose Outlook over the Internet in the web options. Then follow the configuration settings that are outlined in the RWW for Outlook over the Internet.

Thanks.

When Outlook is trying to connect it gives a message that https://mail.company.org is in offline mode.
I can access OWA just fine.
Any clue?
Thanks.

I got RPC/HTTPS to work.
Is there a way to connect to the personal folders remotely through Outlook that reside in the office PC?
Thanks.

Is there a way to setup another account that belongs to a different domain? Outlook does not allow me to use Exchange for the second account.
Thanks.

Natively, in a single profile you can only connect to one Forest. If you want to connect to Exchange in another forest then you have to use another profile.
There is a third party tool called ExtraOutlook that allows you to run two profiles at the same time but that is not supported by Microsoft.

Thanks a bunch.

I just noticed that every time a reopen Outlook, it prompts for user name and password.
Under Security I have "Negotiate Authentication" and under Exchange Proxy Server I have "Basic Authentication".
For another domain account I have "NTLM Authentication" in both places and it still prompts for the username password.
Any clue?
Thanks!

If the machine is on the domain then you shouldn't get authentication prompts.
If the machine is on another domain or not in a domain at all then you will get authentication prompts.
