If I understand correctly you're saying that for say, our support mailbox, we would have to log into Outlook under a profile configured specifically for the support mailbox as if that were the primary address, share the search folders we wanted, and then let the users connect to the shared folders?
I believe we would prefer an exchange solution if that's possible.

Matt,
You would need to configure OUtlook with the shared mailbox profile and then create these shared folders. Are you looking to do it from Exchange somehow?
