The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Exchange 2007 options to store mail

Asked by GerryTheisen in Exchange Email Server, Outlook Groupware Software

Hello,

My company is getting a new Exchange system with 2007 SP1, all new hardware, D2D2T backup, etc.  We currently have about 450 mailboxes and process an average of 3500 emails a day.

With the new system I would like to implement more sound "compliance" rules.  Our backup plan will include a monthly backup on the first day of the month, which will be taken off-site and kept for 5 years, per our regulation requirements.

One requirement is that *every* email inbound/outbound be stored somewhere.

From your experience, what is the better option?: to use journaling or to require that all email be kept in a mailbox for a certain period of time to be backed up?  Storage space is not a big issue, since we will have ample room to grow for several years, and spam is minimal <1%.

Journaling: our compliance officers seem to think that this would be the best solution.  However, it may really punish our backup system in the long run.  Also, does journaling store any attachments to email, including photos, etc?  That is a key issue.

Keep for a period: my thought is to require that any email, even when deleted by a user, go through 2 monthly backups, as stated above.  So for example, if "Joe" receives an email on Mar 31, I want that email to get onto 2 permanent tapes (Apr 1 and May1) before it is gone forever.  Yes, I'm a bit paranoid :) .

Any other ideas?

This is a long and complicated question, but any feedback is greatly appreciated.
