I am running SBS 2003 SP 2 and Exhange. Mail is retrieved via POP3 Connector (Yeah, I know)
In the past I have configured a Windows Mobile phone to sync (Using the phone's data service) and a Palm TX to sync within my local lan only via WiFi (Versamail 3.5)
OWA works fine, RWW works fine - and so does OMA on Mobile devices. OMA also works when I attempt it to use it on the IPod Touch and Safari. My e-mail domain is somewhere else, but I have added a dns on the domain host records so that exchange.mydomain.com resolves out to the Public IP of my Router.
I am now using a IPod Touch, and I can't get it to work either way - either by specifying local lan info or External IP. It's the 2.2.1 version of OS on the Touch and it offers a setup wizard for Exchange.
First, it tells me it can't verify certificate. I assume this is the same as when I connect via OWA to mydomain.com/exchange. I tell it to continue. And, at some point it looks like it will accept things. But to doublecheck, I fo into the mailbox, and that's where I get a "Connection to the server failed". WiFi is on, I can surf the net.
I have tried both the exchange.mydomain.com and the internal ip of the server as well as the server name.
Is it possible that, when I try the external IP in the setup, the wifi can't carry things out and then right back in - - - - like it might work from some other place but not from on my side of the router?
I would love to get it bullet proof so that wherever I have wifi I can sync (trusted providers, btw). But I would be happy too, if like my Palm TX, I could just update it when on the LAN and then have to use OMA. It's a bit difficult in the Touch's Safari - - but I can manage. I don't really need access to new e-mail when away from my network. It's not needed so much for e-mail as updated calendar whenever I am in the office.
Can someone please help me troubleshoot this issue? I have googled and looked at this and that. But I keep thinking "If it worked on my Palm TX, why can't I get at least that much working on this touch". I still have the TX and versamail syncs with Exchange fine (Mail, Calendar, contacts).
Thanks
