According to their website, it should work in exactly the same way as any other Windows Mobile phone, but then I am assuming this is not the case from your question.

Do you have other devices setup on your system that work, and this one refuses to using the same settings?

Yes but there is a problem with them not supporting PIN and Remote wipe in EAS.

If you get a message telling you that

The mail server requires security policies that are not supported

the workaround is to add the user under exceptions in the exchange system manager under  global settings > Mobile Services....right click on mobile services choose preferences and click on the "Device Security.." button and then click on "exceptions..."  and add the user who is receiving the message. Give it 2 min or so to propagate and your in business.

Have you updated to the latest firmware?  I think they have made some changes to the activesync.

To answer your original question, yes. Many people have configured pre's to talk to exchange via EAS (Exchange Active Sync), however there are several known issues as some previous people have said.

EAS is not the same as Windows mobile active Sync.

If you want troubleshooting help with how to get your pre working, provide some additional information.
What version of exchange?
What version of Web OS?
Does your EAS work with any mobile device (iPhone, Windows Mobile)?
Do you get an error message?

I'd like to get in on this question. I too have a Palm Pre. I have the latest update on it.  I am running Exchange 2007 SP1 on Windows 2008 Standard. I have no SSL certificates installed. iPhones are syncing fine with their built in Exchange App. I also have a user with a Samsung Instinct S30 that was able to connect it to the exchange server with out a problem.  The Palm Pre gives me an invalid certificate error and asks if the date and time are correct.

ftctek, you should really open your own questions as your situation might not be the same as the OP and if an answer is provided us as the experts do not get any points for it... Having said that, Here is a link for you to look at.. http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=activesync&message.id=6239
