Browse All TopicsI am very confused by Exchange 2007's licensing. We have a bunch of PDA phones and want to be able to configure the advanced Exchange 2007 activesync policies. We have Exchange 2007 standard. I read online that there are two CAL types: Standard and Enterprise and that you can have a Standard server and enterprise cal? Is this true?
If so, how do you load this into your server? I can't find anywhere to do this.
I read that the enterprise cal allows you to adjust advanced activesync policies on a user by user basis whereas the standard cal only allows you to implement company wide policies? is this true?

All Exchange CALs are done on the honour basis. You don't install them anywhere. If you want the full featureset, then legally you will need both Standard and Enterprise CALs. Enterprise CALs are a top up to the Standard CAL.
As long as what you have read is on microsoft.com then it is correct. If it was elsewhere then I cannot say. Remember when it comes to licensing, only Microsoft can answer your questions. I can give you opinions and understanding, but from a legal point of view I am nothing better than asking a random person in the street.
