And download and run these tools, you may need to redownload and rename them before saving to your desktop if they don't run at first go.
1.  Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop, check for the tool's Updates before running a scan.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

2.  Please download ComboFix by sUBs:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log and attach it in your next reply by pasting it in the "Code Snippet" or "Attach File" window.
Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

If needed, here's the Combofix tutorial which includes the installation of the Recovery Console:

rpggamergirl:

Thank you for the reply. I ran the malwarebytes scan and attempted to fix the detected files. I'm running it again and will post the log shortly. Then I rebooted and ran HijackThis again and got the same results. I also tried to remove the entries you mentioned, but that didn't seem to work either. I cannot run ComboFix on the machine as I am using GoToAssist and that would terminate the connection.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

1) Download & run GMER (rootkit scanner) from (http://www2.gmer.net/gmer.zip)

2) Start GMER, select all options on the right side, after scanning is finished, click on save. Attach the log file here

Hello,

You have 2 antiviruses installed on your PC - AVG and Avast. You only need 1 antivirus on a machine. Removing one of them might make the whole removal process easier.

Hope it helps.

In that case you can run other tools suggested.

You can also try just replacing the Hosts if you can since Hijackthis didn't remove them.

Download the HostsXpert 3.7 - Hosts File Manager.
http://www.funkytoad.com/download/hoster.zip

Unzip HostsXpert 3.7 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert 3.7 - Hosts File Manager
Run HostsXpert 3.7 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper right corner (If available).
Click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
Click the X to exit the program.
Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.

You can also try OTScanIt... this tool will not remove any bad files on it's first run... it will only remove files with a script so we need to see the log.

Download OTS to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTS on your desktop.
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTS.exe

Open the OTS folder and double-click on OTS.exe to start the program. Make sure you close all other programs and don't use the PC while the scan runs.
Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar. Make sure not to use the PC while the program is running or it will freeze.
When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.

Use the Add Reply button and post the information back here in an attachment. I will review it when it comes in. The last line is < End of Report >, so make sure that is the last line in the attached report.

As warturtle had noticed you have 2 antivirus and you should only have one installed...

We could not replace the hosts file and AVG is in some state where you can't uninstall it (we tried a couple times). We ran out of time to do anymore debugging. We're going to rebuild the machine. All of the comments were very helpful and if we had more time we sould have pursued them. Thank you very much for your quick and thoughtful responses - much apperciated.
