How to extract .bkf files

Hi  i am taking regular Exchange backups, every week i take weekly normal backup.

one of my user wants his old mailbox data,  i am having  .bkf file format, how to extract it and get the  " pst" data for him

if this is exchange 2003, then you can create a RSG and then restore the backup and get the data

i dont want to restore all the users backup, i want only for few users... my environment is  Exchange 2007

If the users want the data then the only option is to restore the backup in RSG and then you can Export the mails in PST

frist of all you have to creat a recovry storage group then restore your back up to it

for ex 2003 :

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange_Server_2003_Mailbox_Recovery.html
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Recovering-Mailboxes-Exchange2003-SP1.html

then you will be able to use exmerge to get the pst

for ex2007 :

for clarity !  i dint create  RSG till now at my environ ment ...it is fine to create it now... and restore old backups.

What software are you using to take backups ? If you are using ntbackup then you will have to restore the entire backup in RSG and then merge the required mailbox from RSG to production.If you are using any other 3rd Party Backup then please check with the backup software whether it gives you the option to restore a mailbox (most 3rd party softwares do have that option) .If your backup software has the ability to restore individual mailboxes then you dont have to restore the entire backup set.....

In Exchange 2007 RSG is something different
you can Create RSG from tools from EMC and then you can restore the database from backup and then you can merger the email or you can use 32 bit eddition exchange 2007 mangament console on Windows XP machine and export the mail into pst
