Question

Outlook Anywhere connection with standard users

Asked by: mirandastarchild

Hi, I have a seemingly working outlook anywhere setup here at my office.  I am trying to setup one of my users on Exchange thru outlook anywhere.  We have successfully set up both System Administrators with outlook anywhere accounts outside of our office.

Heres the Delema that has been plaguing me.  Why am i having connectivity issues with standard users attempting to connect to outlook anywhere, as where Administrators seem to have no issues.

We are using Server 2008 with Exchange 2007 on it.

I added myself with "full access" to the users mailbox, and I can connect using my credentials to his email account on his new laptop, however, when I attempt to use his username and password, the password box just comes back again as if an invalid login.

I have checked the security logs on the Exchange server, and it shows the user attempting to connect passing audit , but nothing more than that.

I am at a loss at this point, Any help would be appreciated. I am leaning towards IIS permissions, but I could be totally off base on this one.

Thanks.

Go to www.testexchangeconnectivity.com and test your config.  Choose Outlook Autodiscover and fill in the info.  Post the results back here.

This result  doesnt give much clue .....on client machine go to start > run>outlook /rpcdiag  and provide ordinary users credentials and see where it fails ....
Selcet Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) not outlook Autodiscover and again run the test using www.testexchangeconnectivity.com .
looks like some permission issue on RPC virtual directory

by: mirandastarchildPosted on 2009-10-22 at 10:42:43ID: 25636921

i see that the certificate in use is self signed certificate.
Please have valid certificate (SAN)

or export and install the certificate on the client machine and make sure you can open OWA without any certificate error
once you accomplish this then manually concfigure RPC-https profile on the machine and try to connect see if you can.

What is the principal name of your Cert?  I understand you have several alternates, but what is the main principal name?

OK, nevermind.  Now I see it.  Please disregard earlier post.

by: mirandastarchildPosted on 2009-10-22 at 11:11:35ID: 25637269

I believe that its mail.hobbsltd.ca.

As i said in the original post, when use Admin Credentials that have full access to his account, it connects perfectly, no issues at all.

How are you putting in the username?  UPN (user@domain.com) or domain\user?

by: mirandastarchildPosted on 2009-10-22 at 11:44:35ID: 25637574

domain\user

by: mirandastarchildPosted on 2009-10-26 at 07:27:36ID: 25662552

I found out what my issue is, and I would like to thank everyone who tried to help me. Unfortunately my issue was the evermentioned "User Error".  If anyone else has this issue, Please double\triple check the password that the user gives you. Sigh.

Thanks again.
