When sending a new message.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI had one exchange user that somehow ended up with duplicates of all their folders. Not only did they have an Inbox1 but they had a Tasks1, Calendar1 etc. These empty duplicate folders because the default so I created a new mailbox, exmerged all the users messages and appointments from the old account to the new mailbox.
I then disconnected both the new temporary user from the new mailbox and the problem users from his problem mailbox, then reconnected the problem user with the new mailbox.
He can now log on to Outlook and see all the proper folders with no duplicates. He can send mail okay and can receive mail from the outside which is delivered via a POP connector.
The problem is sending messages to this new user internally - for some reason, now when anyone tries to send him an email, we get a "Delivery Status Notification (Failure)" NDR from Exchange. What's going on here?

Is this because it comes up with an autocomplete, can you actually select him from the Global Address List rather than use Outlooks Auto Complete.
You may also need to run the mailbox cleanup and remove the old mailbox that is no longer required.
In Exchange System Manager navigate to Administrative Groups > First Administrative Group > Servers > Servername > First Storage Group > Mailbox Store > Mailboxes
Right click on Mailboxes and select Run Cleanup Agent then go into the Mailboxes folder and the old mailbox should now have a red cross next to it (you may need to refresh a few times) then right click and select purge on the mailbox.
Well, his email address did not change. Any additional smtp addresses that he had before the mailbox reconnect was restored manually after the mailbox was reconnected to the new one.
I was sure to run the mailbox cleanup as well - and I have now removed the old mailbox. (purged)
I was using the GAL, not autocomplete when sending a message in outlook.

Is this when they send him a new message selecting him from the Global Address List or when they reply to an old one?
