if he uses the same laptop, where the archive resides, assuming he is using Outlook, there should be no issue seeing the email. that would indicate that by virtue of unplugging the machine from the network, the Outlook archive is made unavailable. that's highly unlikely.
that is, UNLESS....the PST archive is on a server share....which might get you a great big DOH!!!!
you need to find out EXACTLY where the archive is.
While in the office, go into Outlook, have him right click on Archive Folders, click the Advanced button (in Outlook 2007 anyway) and copy down the path the pst file mentioned there.
report back. if that file is on a server share, it needs to be copied to your local machine in order for you to have access to the archive away from the office.
ok, ive got the archive email working through terminal services. all i did was to take your advice, copied the pst file from the server and placed it locally. however this didnt work by itself.. i also had to import the file while in terminal services, logged on as the use.. this seems to have solved the prob...thanks all

Archive folders (.pst files) exist only on one machine. Your "regular" mail exists on the server and Outlook in the office or at home connects to the server to view it. Archive folders sit on the computer at the office only and not the server. Your home machine cannot see archive folders for this reason.
