The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Exchange Store Dismounts on Server reboot

Asked by JBCR in Exchange Email Server, SBS Small Business Server

Tags: Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2, SBS R2

I have a client running Microsoft SBS 2003 R2 SP2, Exchange is 6.5 on SP2.
I have recently "inherited" this server so don't know the full history, but after a reboot the Private and Public stores in exchange always display as dismounted, however this did not happen initially. They then have to be manually mounted for users to connect to exchange etc.

I have recently increased the size limit by adding the "Database Size Limit in GB registry key - so there is plently of space.

I also attempted an offline defrag immediately after a reboot but got a jet error indicating that the store was mounted - so it appears that after a reboot it is only partially dismounted if this is possible..

Looking at the logs after a reboot - everything seems normal, with the event id 1001 "The Microsoft Exchange Information Store has started. Service startup complete, version 6.5 ..".
However shortly after this (in log order) the first sign of any problems is :
event_id 8197: MSExchangeFBPublish "Error initializing session for virtual machine SBS. The error number is 0x8004011d. Make sure Microsoft Exchange Store is running. ".

In between these 2 logs there is event id :10302 MSExchangeActiveSyncNotify : "OMA Categorizer succesfully initialized", and an event from ISA server startup.

Once the stores have been manually mounted - everything appears to work fine until next reboot.

Any pointers much appreciated, it is not a disaster to have to manually mount the stores, but is inconvenient, I'm more concerned to know whether or not this is indicative of a bigger problem that needs resolved before anything more serious starts to happen.

Thanks

Jamie
